CNG cylinders are divided into four types.
The first type is steel or aluminum alloy metal bottles (CNG-1);
CNG-1 is all metal, made of steel or aluminum alloy.
The second type is a composite gas cylinder (CNG-2) with steel or aluminum lining and a cylinder body reinforced with “hoop winding” resin impregnated long fibers;
CNG-2 metal lined with hoop-wound fiber. These gas cylinders are metal lined with sufficient strength and thickness to bear the longitudinal load under the specified burst pressure, and withstand the standard safety factor under the working pressure without leakage. Winding to the fiber, the reinforcing fiber is carbon fiber, aramid fiber, glass fiber or mixed fiber.
The third type is composite gas cylinders (CNG-3) reinforced with steel or aluminum lining and “overall winding” resin impregnated long fibers;
CNG-3 metal lined with full-wound fiber. These cylinders are metal lined, but they do not have enough strength and thickness to bear the longitudinal load under the specified burst pressure. They are reinforced by hoop and longitudinal fiber winding. The reinforcing fiber is carbon fiber, aromatic Polyamide fiber, glass fiber or mixed fiber.
The fourth type is composite gas cylinders (CNG-4) reinforced with plastic linings and “wrapped” resin-impregnated long fibers.
CNG-4 non-metal lining with full-wound fiber. These cylinders have no metal lining and cannot bear the load. The lining material is a thermoplastic material, and the reinforcing fiber is carbon fiber, aramid fiber, glass fiber or mixed fiber. The fiber is wound in a hoop or longitudinal direction to enhance the bearing capacity of the lining, and the metal nozzle is used to install a valve or a pressure reducing device. The metal material typically used is aluminum or stainless steel.
Wrapped gas cylinders can be divided into metal-lined carbon fiber-wound composite gas cylinders and fully-wound composite gas cylinders. Fully-wound composite gas cylinders refer to plastic and carbon fiber-wound composite gas cylinders. Carbon fiber-wound composite gas cylinder with metal liner generally refers to a fully-wound composite gas cylinder with aluminum liner and carbon fiber. Winding gas cylinders can also be divided into high-strength glass fiber winding gas cylinders, carbon fiber winding gas cylinders, and aramid fiber winding gas cylinders.
