OGRA informed that the price of liquefied petroleum gas increased by 16 rupees/kg in January

Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) notified on Thursday that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will increase by a record 16 rupees per kilogram, and the price will take effect from January 1, 2021.
According to OGRA’s notice, the price of LPG will be increased by 16 rupees per kilogram in January, the price of LPG cylinders for domestic users will be increased by 188 rupees, and the price of LPG cylinders for commercial users will be increased by 722 rupees.
According to detailed information, the current price of LPG is 148 rupees/kg, the price of household cylinders is 1,741 rupees, and the price of commercial cylinders in January 2021 is 6,697 rupees.
Previously, the price of LPG was 132 rupees per kilogram, the price of household cylinders was 1553 rupees, and the price of commercial cylinders was 5,976 rupees in December 2020.
Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the Pakistan Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry Association, was annoyed by the rate of levy of LPG prices and other taxes, and asked the government to terminate these taxes, and warned that the LPG industry will strike indefinitely across the country from January 15 If their requirements are not met.
He said that infeasible policies and high taxes have had a negative impact on the LPG industry. “Liquefied petroleum gas distributors pay more than 6 billion rupees in taxes. If this unnecessary burden is not alleviated, then we will have no choice but to strike across the country.”
Khokhar also emphasized that the import of LPG from the Taftan border should not be taxed, adding that this would make LPG too expensive for the public.
It is worth mentioning here that liquefied petroleum gas is one of the most environmentally friendly fossil fuels, and it is cheap and convenient. Currently, it is also used as the main source of heating, cooking and lighting in the remote mountainous areas of the country. More than 40,000 households in the country enjoy the benefits of LPG, and more than 10,000 motorists in Pakistan use LPG in their vehicles.
